Golden Milk

golden milk

I want to introduce you something brilliant, that I stumbled upon a few weeks ago, Golden Milk. This drink is so helpful for your immune system, when you think you're coming up with a cold. Its natural anti inflammatory properties that specialists say turmeric has, combined with a natural, plant based milk, it's a match made in natural heaven. I wanted to improve this recipes a bit by adding some extra condiments with some anti inflammatory properties as well. Of course you can prepare it in many ways, but today I'm presenting you with my version.

Ingredients: (for 1 cup)
240 g coconut milk ( of course you can use cow milk, if you prefer)
1/2 - 1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp honey
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp powdered ginger

  A few advices:
  • The official version is made with cow milk, but my stomach goes crazy when I drink it, so I decided to use my homemade coconut milk. Use any milk you want except for non-fat milk, because turmeric is fat soluble.
  • Since not everyone likes the taste of turmeric I recommend to start with a small amount, about 1/2 tsp and increase the amount when you make your next cup.
  • You can omit the cinnamon, honey, or ginger if you don't like any of those, but they're all beneficial for your body.
  • ATTENTION this drink can not be consumed by pregnant women because it can stimulate the uterine activity and can cause early contractions.

Preheat your milk of choice and turn it off just before it comes to the boil. Pour it into a blender, along with the turmeric, cinnamon and ginger. Let it infuse for approximately 10 minutes and then add the honey. Start mixing at full speed for 1 minute, then pour into a mug and enjoy. It helps to decongest and improves your well being.
    Enjoy your Golden Milk!
